What is the Cost of Same Day Crowns?

Many patients believe that because crowns made in one visit are quicker and more convenient, they will cost more, but that is not the case at all. Price wise this type of crown is no different than a traditional lab created crown. Every situation is different, which means the price of the dental crown will differ, but the average price of this type of dental crown created at Cashion Dental is $1,100. This estimate only covers the cost of the crown procedure and does not include any additional procedures, such as root canals, that may need to be performed.

Most insurance companies have adapted to changing technology and will cover same day dental crowns. The percentage that is covered by your dental insurance will vary depending upon who the provider is and what type of plan you purchased. Our office staff at Cashion Dental can help you better understand what out-of-pocket expenses you may incur as a result of choosing this type of dental procedure.

In the event you do not have dental insurance or the procedure is not covered by your current dental plan, there are options available to help you afford this procedure. Free, no interest financing options may be available to qualified patients through CareCredit. Our office also accepts payment by check, cash, or major credit card for all procedures.

What is the Treatment Process of Same Day Crowns?

Dental crowns made within a single office visit have a unique treatment process that is unlike traditional lab-created crowns. Patients no longer have to wait days, or even weeks, for their dental impression to be sent off to a lab and a crown created. Everything is done right within our office and without the use of sticky, runny dental impression goo.

The treatment process for this dental procedure can be broken down into several different steps. In most cases, all of these steps can be completed within a single office visit. Some situations may require the patient to return for a second appointment, but we do our best to fit everything into one appointment.

The first step of the process is a routine exam. Our dentist, Dr. Cashion, will conduct a thorough oral examination that looks at the overall health of your teeth, mouth, and gums. Dr. Cashion will also inspect the problem area. Once the examination is complete, our dentist will discuss with you the various treatment options that are available to you.

After the decision has been made to go with a same day dental crown, we will move on to the next step of the treatment process. This step of the process involves scanning the teeth and creating the crown that will be placed inside your mouth. Our dentist will use a piece of dental equipment known as The CEREC System to create the crown. Using a small wand, our dentist will scan the tooth where the crown will be attached, as well as your entire mouth. The system will take the images obtained by this scan and design a crown that will fit. After the system has completed the crown design, it will send it to a 3D printer, where a 3D model is created. When this is completed, the system will use both the scanned images and 3D model to create the actual crown. The actual crown is created using a milling machine that is built right into the CEREC System.

Once the actual crown is completed by the milling machine, our dentist will shape and fit it. The goal is to add any finishing touches to the crown so it will securely sit within your mouth and look as natural as possible. After the crown has been molded to fit your tooth, our dentist will cement it into place, which will complete the treatment process.

This specific type of dental crown allows patients to fix current dental problems without having to go through a lengthy process that requires multiple office visits. Patients can expect it to take approximately 1.5 hours to 2 hours to complete the treatment process for this type of dental crown. The actual time it takes for your appointment may vary depending upon how many teeth need a crown and if any problems arise during the treatment process.

  • Why Should I Opt for Same Day Crowns?

Same day crowns have revolutionized the procedure of installing dental crowns in patients with cracked, decayed, or otherwise badly damaged teeth. They have taken the “wait” out of the process and bring with them many other benefits as well. In a select few situations, traditional lab-made crowns may be preferable to same day crowns. For example, those who are given to constantly clenching their teeth might do better with gold crowns (the strongest, if also most visible, variety). In most cases, however, same day crowns are the better option.

Here are 3 reasons why: You save valuable time. Instead of two separate visits with 1 to 3 weeks between them while you wait for the dental lab to manufacture your crown, it all happens in one visit, and often, in only an hour or two. As an added “bonus,” no dental putty or temporary crowns will be involved. You get high-quality results. Your crowns will be custom-made and an extremely precise fit. They will also be made of strong, durable ceramic material that closely matches the color of your natural teeth. You won’t pay any extra. Most dentists charge about the same for same day crowns as lab-made because the cost of the high-tech equipment is offset by the savings on lab work. Also, most dental insurance covers same day crowns the same way as traditional.

  • Same day crowns are the latest in “digital dentistry,” utilizing the high-tech CEREC system and its chairside screen views of your teeth. But modern dental technology is not an end in itself. It is only as valuable as its practical benefit to real dental patients. If you have a cracked, chipped, or otherwise damaged tooth that needs to be crowned, you may be wondering whether traditional lab-made crowns or the more up-to-date same-day crowns are right for you.

While there are limited situations in which a traditional crown may be best (ask your dentist to know when), in most cases, same-day crowns are clearly the way to go. Here are some of their main benefits:

You get your new crown 100% finished in a single visit, which may take no more than a couple of hours. This makes it easier to schedule and saves you some of your valuable time.
There will be no need to wear a temporary crown/fitting. As temporary crowns are often uncomfortable, unattractive, and need to be worn for two or three weeks, eliminating them is a major plus.
There will be no messy dental putty in your mouth. Same day crowns are made based on digital mappings and carved out of a block of ceramic to the point of utmost precision. The whole process is clean and “putty free.”
The crown will match your tooth color. There are 17 distinct shades of same day crowns, one of which will closely match your tooth enamel. Furthermore, there will be no black lines at gum level as sometimes happens with porcelain crowns.

Same day crowns are one of the major breakthroughs of modern dentistry, and they offer the patient numerous important benefits. They are the products of the CEREC system, which both designs and generates the new crown within minutes’ time, eliminating the need to wait for the lab to fabricate the crown and for the patient to return for a second visit for fitting and installation.

Aside from the fact that they are fully finished after only one dental appointment, other benefits of same day crowns are:

    • Less pain: Same day crowns involve less drilling, fewer injections, and eliminate the need to wear an uncomfortable, temporary crown.
    • Less mess: Because the CEREC system uses an intra-oral camera to digitally capture the size, contours, and the position of your tooth, there is no need to use messy dental putty to take a physical impression. You can even watch the images of your teeth as they appear on a chair-side screen.
    • Less tooth loss: Same day crowns tend to preserve more of the natural structure of a tooth than is true of traditional, lab-made crowns. Personal results will vary, though, based on the condition of your teeth.
    • Greater strength: The porcelain material used in same day crowns is generally stronger than materials used in traditional crowns. This means a better bite and a longer lifespan of the crown.
    • Greater precision: The CEREC machine eliminates most human error and allows for a better-fitting crown that more exactly replicates the lost portion of your original tooth.
    • Greater color-matching: Compared to some other methods, CEREC’s same day crowns better match the natural enamel coloring of your teeth.
